The EVO Visian ICL is an implantable collamer lens (ICL). It works in a way that’s similar to a contact lens, except you do not remove it from the eye.
The EVO Visian ICL is an additive lens, meaning that it sits in the eye in addition to the natural lens. It is placed behind the iris and in front of the natural lens to correct nearsightedness and astigmatism.
It does not remove tissue or anything from the eye when implanted. Although it is meant to be permanent, it is the only reversible vision correction procedure available.
The EVO Visian ICL uses a biocompatible material called collamer. Collamer is biocompatible and in natural harmony with the chemistry of the eye because it’s derived from collagen.
Collagen is a material that the body creates for healthy skin, bones, and joints. Using a material derived from collagen ensures that the EVO Visian ICL is well-suited for many kinds of patients.

Before you can have the EVO Visian ICL, you’ll have a pre-operative eye exam. During this eye exam, your ophthalmologist will perform several standard tests to measure your eyes and ensure you are a suitable EVO Visian ICL candidate.
You’ll also learn more about the procedure and what to expect before, during, and after it’s over. If you qualify as a candidate, you’ll return to Colorado Eye Consultants for your EVO Visian ICL procedure.
First, you’ll receive numbing eye drops to prevent pain and dilate your pupils. Once these have time to settle in your eyes, the procedure can begin.
Your surgeon will create a small incision at the base of the cornea to prepare for the ICL implant and insert the EVO ICL lens. You won’t be able to feel this because of the numbing eye drops.
Next, your surgeon will fold up the EVO ICL lens and insert it through the small incision previously created. After it’s inserted, your surgeon will make adjustments and position the EVO ICL to ensure it’s in the correct spot of your eye.
You don’t need to worry about sutures or stitches because that’s the end of the procedure! You can return home after this because the EVO Visian ICL is an outpatient procedure.
You won’t be able to drive home, so ensure you have a trusted friend or family member to bring you back. Many patients start experiencing visual improvements almost instantly after having the EVO Visian ICL procedure.
